Most people who join Nashville Taiko do not arrive knowing how to play taiko.
Our beginner pathway introduces the fundamentals in a supportive group setting. We focus not only on rhythms, but also stance, movement, sound, timing, kiai and the awareness needed to play as an ensemble. No previous taiko, drumming or musical experience is required. Drums are provided and loaner bachi are available.
Beginner Foundations
Our beginner courses introduce:
Already played taiko?
If you have previous taiko experience, tell us a little about where and how long you played.
Depending on your background, it may make more sense for you to attend a regular community practice rather than begin with the introductory course.
After the beginner course
People who want to continue have a pathway into regular community practices.
From there, members can develop technique and repertoire at their own pace. Some people ultimately want to perform. Others simply enjoy learning and playing with the group.
Performance is optional.
Participation and accessibility
Contact us for current course and participation information.
We want taiko to remain accessible, and finances should never be the reason someone feels unable to participate. If cost is difficult, please talk with us privately. We are happy to discuss an arrangement.
